What happened:
Encountered several shallow gas zones. The decision to use and mobilize foam cement took some time. This forced the client to take on extremely expensive spot-market vessels to deliver equipment and rig up.
What was planned:
Drill top hole section without encountering shallow gas
What was learned:
In places where shallow gas is somewhat expected, foam cement equipment should be mobilized and kept ready incase its needed. It is cheaper to start mobilizing equipment and demobilizing it, rather then having operational downtime and also taking on spot-market vessels.
What actions are required:
No actions required as this is usally up to the clients. However, it can be recommended to different clients based on this experience.
